The NPark's notice of the closure:

As the floating pontoons at the jetties of both Sisters’ Islands will be removed for inspection and maintenance after 16 December 2015, intertidal walks at the Sisters’ Islands Marine Park and land access to Sisters’ Islands will be temporarily unavailable from 16 December 2015 till end March 2016. During this period, please visit the Sisters’ Islands Marine Park Public Gallery on St John’s Island instead. Intertidal walks will resume in April 2016 and land access to Sisters’ Islands will resume on 1 April 2016.

Has this happened before?

Yes. The pontoons at recreational Southern Islands are removed every few years or so. For checks and servicing to make sure they are safe. This usually takes a few months. This also happens, for example, at Pulau Hantu.

What is the Marine Park Public Gallery on St John’s Island?

To get to the Public Gallery, take the public ferry from Marina South Pier. Then just follow the bright blue footprints along the path from the St. John's Island jetty to the Tropical Marine Science Institute.
A closer look at the footprints!
Among the magnificent displays at the Gallery is a showcase of the Dive Trail at the Marine Park which were recently launched.
The Gallery includes a display of some important on-going marine research and conservation work being done at TMSI and in Singapore. These include work on Giant clams and Fish Aggregating Devices with colourful displays to illustrate them.
There is also a lovely display of all the natural habitats on Sisters Islands. Not just marine but also birds and other wildlife!
Here's more about the Public Gallery and what you can see and do there.
